For a treehouse or shed, you'd want cable that's either UV-stabilized or direct-burial rated, preferably also with a gel to ward off water intrusion if the jacket should crack.

This stuff is plain PVC jacket, and carries none of the above ratings, nor is it riser or plenum rated, so it can't be used in walls or ceilings. And it's solid, but you want to make patch cords out of stranded wire because of flexure damage.

So if it's not useful outdoors, and it's not useful indoors, and it's not useful in the closet, what's it for?

    People who don't know better!

^ It may be riser rated but they failed to mention it. On one of the pics I can't make out all the markings on the cable jacket but I do see "FT2" which is a fire rating.

I purchase a similar deal through new_egg April 18 and am still waiting on the $50 rebate. New_egg is slow with rebates. When I check on the status of the rebate is says "We have received your submission and it is being processed.". It been like that for several weeks now. The cable I purchased through them was Coboc cat6 stranded 24 gauge not solid 26 gauge like this Rosewill. Solid is preferred for fishing cable through walls but I did OK fishing the less stiff stranded cable because most times the cable is being pulled through the wall rather than pushed (at least in my case). IMHO I would not buy this if you truly want cat6 wire performance, 26 gauge wire diameter is outside the specification for cat6. I usually buy Monoprice cat6 which is quality 23 gauge solid copper not the cheaper CCA (Copper Clad(coated) Aluminum). Yes good cable costs $109 but running cable can be very labor and time intensive so I don't take any chances. Hope this helps.

^ Lots of places wait till around 7 weeks after the last day to submit a rebate to start processing them. That way they do them all as a batch and keep your money longer to make some interest off of it.
