^ Yeah but from what I recall in the pre-LSD era, it was crazy what decent D cells cost. You can get 2 x AA to 1 x D cell adapters off eBay for around a buck a piece, that's looking like the most versatile option.
The LaCrosse battery charge I bought came with 2 C, and 2 D adapters in the kit. Great chargers by the way! Obviously no where near the capacity of a D battery though!
