That is pretty much the case with these types.

From a review...
"I called GE and they stated that the rated lifetime for these bulbs is only 125 HOURS according to their spec sheet."

I'd rather have both lights working for ten years.

That's why you replace your lights before they burn out so you have a backup set, though I agree that I'd rather have longer life which is why I went with the non-platinum Nighthawks last time, which you can get for only a buck more:
