These things do work. I moved into a new house and the sound of crickets and such at night was more than I could bare. I took a leap of faith and purchased one and plugged it in outside facing the back yard. It took about 3 weeks and suddenly, they were gone. No more chirping and it has been working great since April.
All ultrasonic devices have been proven to be useless at repelling pests. If you have pests in your house/work, the better option would be to build them out (seal up holes which they are entering the building through, remove or seal up easily acquired food sources, and if all else fails, fumigate/spray pesticide and clean the area thoroughly.
Can't believe they are still finding people gullible enough to buy this type of device. My mom had two of these (actually a name brand) for years. Roaches must be deaf or didn't know they were supposed to be repelled.
Devices like these do work to some extent against rodents, but mostly within line of sight in same room, so if mice were getting into your cupboard and eating your food, strategically locating one might help.
