I don't see windows 8 doing too well. Metro on a desktop is a really bad idea from my use of it. It's turning windows into Window, only one program at a time, period unless you use their "legacy desktop". Not that 120 per windows 7 is a deal. I see it for under 100 quite often for OEM.
Hopefully they get that issue resolved in Windows 9
Now is when Win7 is most valuable, having had patches released, bugs and workarounds covered. Like XP it's going to be the preferred OS for quite a while in the future despite people having Win8 forced on them when they buy OEM systems.
dont they always have a good windows every other version. like xp(good), vista(bad), 7(good), 8(bad).... ?
but i agree with dave, 7 is at its peak right now. however with the exception of many researching unit still uses xp due to old machines.
