Why are they doing it? Maybe MS wants to find out all the "live" accounts you have. That is valuable to them.
I signed up using FireFox private browsing. I have no idea if that kept MS from connecting my accounts.
OneDrive Preview needs your permission to: Sign in automatically, View your profile info and contact list, Access your email addresses, Add or remove bonus storage
This is where my Windows 10 disk encryption keys are stored? I want to make sure they are secure so nobody can snoop on my hard drive. I know and trust Microsoft will never give my key to any government agency without proper search warrant and they will not rifle thru my account to see if I am divulging windows flaws and software keys.
Check out bittorrent sync if you want to host your own or need more storage. I used it until I got an "unlimited" Gdrive account through my school. With BTSync, you must provide your own storage, but they will give you an encrypted conduit through their cloud for sync. You can also be 100% self-hosted if you got a static IP (or DDNS) and know how to open a few ports on your router. There's a a free and commercial version. The free version still very usable, and will probably cover most folks needs. The whole thing works through shared secret key hashes, so it's way more secure than all the other cloud storage providers.
