One these days I'll have to bump up from this Sempron I'm on. But I really need 2 PCI (this has) and USB3 (this doesn't).
Coke and fries missing...
For what you're getting it's not bad, I mean it's hard to beat the 1Tb HDD with this, that's $70 right there. While at this point a Rana and 880G barley suffices; however what ruins it for me is the memory! One stick of expensive, but lax-a-daisy PC3 10600 might not be the worst... although if you aspire dual-channel (which you should) buying a second matching stick is totally prohibitive way ($50) to upgrade such a budget build.
Today I'm taking to an FM1 build. Start with the Asus F1A55-M LE A55 (Hudson D2) M-ATX $50. Then something like Unlocked Llano A6-3670K 2.7GHz Quad-Core with 6530D Graphics $83. Then ante-up for some nice fast memory that can get that OC'able APU to sing. Something like G. Skill Sniper 8GB (2x 4GB) DDR3 1866 (PC3 14900) $63. Now all that is pricey against this Rana/880G stuff, as this would be just shy of $200 -AR$20, and that's not including the HDD.
But you're building from components that had relevance in 2011... not 2008. And while there's a difference in CPU watts, overall for the boost in performance and appreciating part of that 100W also includes much improved graphics, I really see the overall efficiency of a Llano platform the better move.
Way overpriced... weak CPU. You would be much better off buying a retail PC.
Thanks for the valuable info casecutter.
I am so far out of touch with developments that I don't feel like taking the time to catch up.
I tend to want to get real down and dirty into the details of a build, optimizing every part. But having let things slide past for 4 or 5 years leaves me far in the dust.
Of dang this deal could make this ointo a decent PC... XFX 6750 1GB DDR3 Bundled with AMD 2GB DDR3 Memory Module 1333MHz (PC3 10600) That would have some of memory at dual channel if I've reading correctly
