I recently built a machine with the Phenom 2 975 black that was on sale last week. I must say that it rocks! I have always used Intel before....AMD is pretty good bang for your buck.
Just stay away from Bulldozer and AMD is still a viable alternative to Intel. Piledriver has a lot of work ahead of it to save the company's reputation.
This is the not the Black Edition... (Black Edition = overclocking friendly)
If you want a BE CPU, Superbiiz has the 965 for $91
Of course the BE CPUs are 125W (except the 960T)
I bumped the bios OC up 10%. Not sure how high I can go but why OC when it runs everything screaming fast. Maybe I will play with it later but for now with the SSD it runs everyting at hi res without a blink..
#6, that's about as fast as they go without extreme measures (4GHz).
