Fair option for HTPC if you're not trying to do software encoding (recording) with an HD source.

#3 You mean single core CPU ? Unless unlocked/OC'd- I think the single core unit is kind of weak for real HD media..

Why would you spend the money on the MB and ram to make this thing work?

I wrote "If you're NOT trying... recording... HD"

For playback, that's plenty assuming you have full GPU HD decoding which you'd want no matter which CPU you choose.

spartan is right, and its a joke if you think this proc cant do HD. I have mine running at 3.7ghz on a stock amd cooler. These chips are fast.

Which stock AMD cooler though? There's quite a bit of difference between the fancy copper heatpiped type, then the big aluminum ones w/o any heatpipes, then the quite small one that comes with a retail packaged Sempron 145. The retail 145's sink is only 2cm tall, 7.7cm long, 6.8cm wide + a 60mm/15mm thick fan on it.
