My question is, if I can reach down and get my hand to the electrical outlet area, why wouldn't I just UNPLUG the whatever, and save myself $5?? Rolling Eyes

Buy it to help the economy. And businesses exist to separate you from your hard earned cash.

Because some folks may be dealing with a non-grounded polarized plug that they need to plug in and out, repetitively over time, and soon becomes an annoying task having to fumble farking around getting the plug oriented correctly each time they want to use the electrical device. Also, someone might have an appliance that uses electricity when plugged in that automatically run in a stand-by mode, this might be a good device to use to stop the electricity drain. Some appliances and devices have inconveniently located on/off switch (coffee makers). This might be a good solution...

I use one for a counter top rice cook that I use normally twice a day to make my dog's meals. I tired quickly of the 50/50 chance of getting the plug to go in the fist attempt with my not so good near vision because of the polarized plug...

Because (standard grade household type) wall outlets aren't usually rated for a large # of plug/unplug cycles, they're single piece brass per contact with no pivot points or springs. The contacts will get loose and it'll start arching and pretty soon it has to be replaced, hopefully without causing a fire first.
