This lens is obsolete. The new one is stm and is much better. However, it costs twice as much which makes this one something to consider.

STM lens are quiet, so they're better for video shooting.

Definitely not "obsolete". Its a very nice lens, and a steal at 100 bones. I had the same one and it served me well for years before upgrading to the EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS USM.

I had this lens and it actually does a fantastic job for the price. It is perfect for a beginner or high school/college student just getting started in photography. Check out the Photography on the Net Website for a ton of pictures taken with this lens.
