As we see more and more T2i deals coming out- that might indicate the T4i is approaching....
      From Canonrumors.com
"The camera (T4i) will probably be a new 24mp APS-C sensor and run a DIGIC 5 processor. The DIGIC 5+ won't be used."

I feel sorry for canon users, they're releasing a new consumer model every year rofl. Nikon at least give you 2 years or more between models.

#2 I am not speaking for Canon but maybe that's the reason why Canon always get the bigger market share than Nikon ? because update faster ? response to customer demand faster ?
According to IDG 2010 report - even the Sony beats Nikon on market share.
      http://www.onlinemarketing-trends.com/2011/05/us-digital-camera-marketshare-canon-and.html
      Same story here
      http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2011-04-15/sony-nikon-narrow-gap-to-canon-with-new-digital-camera-models.html

But don't make me wrong- I do think Nikon is making great cameras too. But I do think Nikon need to think their marketing strategy over again. Otherwise it will only keep going down...

A lot of times the "new" camera has "evolutionary" features, like: the rear LCD swivels, or 2.3 more megapixels, or autofocus during videorecording, or 11 more preprogrammed shooting modes. I am FAR, FAR, FAR from an experienced photographer, but my intuition is once you have a solid body and the right lens in your hands, those additional features add very little value. In the end it's the quality of the print that matters, and that depends as much on practice and experience as it does technology. The moral? Yeah, one company might sell more or less based on product update cycles, but that is a consumer-sales issue, not a photography/quality issue. It isn't necessarily a better camera because it has a higher model number. Wink

What does market share have to do with anything? Ford market share is a lot bigger than Aston Martin. Also of note Nikon DSLR market share is about 30% vs Sony 12%. #2 got it right. Take the T2i and the T3i, basically the same freaking camera with a swivel screen and a few extra video functions. How would you feel if you buy a T2i then less than a year later they release another camera that is just a little bit better just to piss you off rofl. That's like releasing a movie then a few months later release the "extended director cut" version rofl. I understand why they did it, doesn't make it a good thing for consumers.

      @ ho0tsauce

I bet those Canon people feel the same as those loser iPhone users. They buy an iPhone 4 only to have the iPhone 4 "S" be released shortly after. And then those same dumb @sses feel they need to upgrade...for what? A slightly better camera and a stupid app that talks to you?

Why not get an Android that has all the bells and whistles that will last you a couple years? The same goes with a Nikon.

Market share is used by businesses to determine their competitive strength in a sector as compared to other companies in the same sector. Canon's high market share % also means Canon sell more than Sony or Nikon- that means more $$. No matter Nikon or Canon - their target is profit not service you for free. You can also check wiki and see Revenue for Canon is up and for Nikon - is down.
Ford market share is bigger than Aston Martin- so they profit more. But they focus on different buyers. I don't think Nikon focus on "luxury high end buyer " like Aston Martin does. The market between Canon and Nikon are totally overlapped. Not like professional /rich/famous people buy Aston Martin( Nikon you mean) and poor people buy Ford( Canon).
The 2010 DSLR market share Canon ( 44%) vs Nikon (30%)
      http://www.1001noisycameras.com/2011/04/canon-destroyed-nikon-in-2010-dslr-market-share-yir-6.html
Maybe we should wait for 2011 yearly report and see if Canon will keep leading or Nikon catch up well. If Nikon market keep shrinking- that will be pretty bad specially when economy is very poor now.

Nikon increase but did not imact Canon, Sony even Samsung- they gain their market share from Kodak Co., Fujifilm Holdings Corp. and Casio- they are all 2nd tier camera companies.
Anyway , market decide everything. At DSLR category- Nikon lose to Canon. At Point-and-shoot category- Nikon is not a leader either. Nikon should rethink what's their expertise and find a new battlefield to become a winner/leader again. So their business can increase revenue to battle with Canon /Sony/Panasonic... Losing revenue is never a good sign..
