I bought this from Ace Hardware for $90 when the leaves started falling about 2 months ago. I was pretty happy with it and at $35 I would buy it again in a heartbeat. For $90, eh, I needed it so I bought it. For just leaves this thing is great; however, I have a 3 foot landscaping border with the traditional wood chips. This blower can suck those chips up like nothing yet doesn't have enough power to shred through them. A small 1/4"x1/8" wood chip is too much for this thing. I was constantly having to turn the machine off to let the chips fall out and then turning it back on to continue trying to get only leaves. I realize I was probably using it for more than it was designed for but there is my expereince with this thing if anyone is thinking about buying it. I would recommend it even if you don't need it for $35. The blower function worked perfectly like anything you would ever need.

It's problematic to use handheld electric or gas blowers as vacs. Even if it's only sucking leaves they deposit grime everywhere that clogs every nook and cranny including air filter and cooling fins or vents (depending on engine or motor), wears the motor bearings and impeller.

I suppose it's worse on gas powered models because a strip down to clean them out takes a lot more time, and there's also the pull cord mechanism which is greased so leaf/etc dust more readily sticks to it, but on the other hand the air filter keeps the vast majority of the dust from entering the engine while with an electric you're bound to get more into the motor.

Anyway after the last time I stripped down and cleaned out a blower I decided to stop mulching with it and do so by mowing instead and leaving them where they were, then put any remaining whole leaves in a compost pile.
