The download does not cover the key so you still have to pay for the game

Well that's pointless... I figured they just gave the game away and you would still need to pay the monthly charges if you actually want to play.

Sorry for the confusion, after more investigating it appears Sony has a strange way of distributing the game online, allowing you to download it but still requiring you to buy or transfer a license.
