yeah.....not sure I would want just anyone picking me up in their own car
I do believe it's illegal to drive passengers for profit without a livery license
just did a google search and this company has some lawsuits against them

    agreed
I can think of a few scenarios on how this would not be something I would risk
I would have some concerns about a unlicensed livery without commercial insurance driving me around ( i'm in NYC )
the city has regulated curb side medallions kinda for a reason - although I get that it's a way to scam riders
gypsy cabs are common , but you take a risk
but to be honest I've felt really uncomfortable in licensed cabs also

    (1) I don't work for Uber.
    (2) I've used them for a year, and it's the BEST THING that's happened to taxi travel since the combustion engine.
    (3) Uber checks out every single driver, and they are all insured and bonded. In areas where they can't operate legally (like Las Vegas), they don't.
    (4) Once you have the app installed, you can summon a car with 2 clicks. You can see where the car is on a map so there's no guesswork.
    (5) Your Uber driver calls you within 5 minutes of your request (often more like 30 seconds).
    (6) If you are going to post negative comments, please have some idea of what it is you're dissing.

Oh two more things I love:
    (1) when you arrive, you just get out of the car. Your fare and designated tip are billed to your CC automatically.
    (2) they automatically email you a receipt (configurable).

I have not used Uber yet as I'm in Chicago and there's plenty of taxi to go around. There are apps to summon taxi as I wish too w/ maps and everything (I think) that Uber offer. Except the pricing model. I'm still a bit worry on Uber's pricing model which 'surge' the price depending on supply / demand.

    http://www.theverge.com/2013/12/18/5221428/uber-surge-pricing-vs-price-gouging-law

This may be good to encourage more Uber drivers but boy does it get expensive!

Supply / Demand pricing seems completely fair to me, that's what the entire economy is based on but with other products and services it's just slower to react. I don't even see how they can legislate it away if they wish to preserve a free market where a seller is entitled to set their own prices.

... and another thing. If it were my car and it's the middle of a bad storm or other natural disaster, I'd expect to make a bit more money than if it were a sunny day.

This is a great deal! I've been driving for Uber for about 4 months now. This is probably the best part time job I've ever had. I've accumulated over 200+ trips without a single incident. Trust me I wasn't comfortable with the idea of random people jumping into my car neither. This is absolutely the best and smartest way to get around town. Wait times are usually 3-5 minutes tops. Cars are usually late model vehicles and we provide water bottles in all the rides. I'm an Uber driver, I recommend you take advantage of this amazing freebie.
