I don't think it's impractical at all. It lets you mouse without moving your hand. Or say you're a lobster and you only have two fingers on each hand, so you're not good at gripping things with any sort of finesse.

I think this would be more helpful if you could somehow mount it near the space bar of your keyboard. Then you could mouse around without taking your hands off of the keys.
