If only it was robotic so doing our 6acres+ could be done without recharging manually and doing a portion every day. Like a non stop mowing session lol
I am still optimistic they will come out with affordable robotic mowers for large areas in the near future!
There are already robotic mowers. The last I saw followed a wire in the ground. Haven't seen any GPS based ones but they may exist. Mowers are dangerous and so many unexpected things can happen that it wouldn't be reasonable to expect a mower to figure out. Would it be worth the risk? Wouldn't it be cheaper/easier to just hire the neighbor kid to do it? Just astroturf your yard and forget about mowing all together! Think of the savings in water and chemicals. Cordless yard equipment is only suitable for postage stamp sized yards. With a good reel mower who needs batteries?
Why would they be any different than the robotic vacuums? They don't need GPS or wire?
Years ago I saw a robotic mail delivery thing inside of a giant corporation office building. Every morning somebody would spray a certain liquid on the carpet to mark the route and the little train thing would follow it by smell. It would stop in the middle of the cubical rows and people would drop off their mail and pickup any incoming mail.

Indoors a vac can either use ultrasonic or infrared reflection sensing to avoid obstacles sticking up like walls or furniture, and if it bumps into a toy, pet, or person it's not all that dangerous.
Outdoors it is often the case that a mowed lot may not have anything to sense at the edge of the lot, and not only the greater weight but also a spinning blade will slice and dice toys, pets, and people's feet. I suppose it could have a sensor like an indoor vac but if they guarantee that is effective/safe then it seems like a lawsuit waiting to happen.

Thank you!
