Bus powered. That means you can't power more than 2 external hard drives. I haven't seen any AC powered ones, so there must be a problem providing power.

It has a 5V DC barrel socket for an AC supply, which are available on eBay for about $5. You should probably wait till you get it to order the PSU so you know if the plug needs to be 5.5mm OD and 2.5mm ID, or 5.5mm OD and 2.1mm ID, or some other size.

Alternatively you could get a barrel plug and desktop PSU molex adapter/extension/etc to solder up a power cable powered by the system PSU. This would be the cheapest way to end up with 3.5A or more 5V current. That is, 500mA per port. Somebody already makes adapter cables like this for about $2 to $3 but last time I looked for them I couldn't find the source I saw previously.

Hoo Too does make a 7 port USB 3 hub with a 4A wart, but I'll bet the above one won't work with it. My own experience with a 12 port hub was that it wouldn't work with a 3 amp wart. I suspect the internal works need to be beefed up for that much amperage.

^ Hard to say until you try it, but I wouldn't assume one way or the other based on the results with a different hub since it does have the power socket on it.

On the other hand, I wouldn't expect any individual port to necessarily support charging anything that needs over 500mA since that's the USB spec for max power per port.

"Includes data cable & charging cable" - anybody knows what the charging cable is?

^ probably just a copy 'n paste mistake from another product that uses a USB cable to charge a battery that this doesn't have.
