      I'm surprised this has been up for 3 hours and no one has complained about FreedomPop's FREE service yet.

      They have refurbished devices and data plans on the wimax network that is slower than a stoned manatee.
      The voice and text are over wi-fi and the quality is horrible. Your chance of getting a phone that works is low, of getting good reception lower, of having to pay to ship the darn EVO back very high.

      @basementbargain Happy now?

      This seems exactly the same bargain that yesterday had 10 negative comments, was it taken down and reposted to get rid of the negative comments?

      And the phone has still only 512MB of RAM, not 1GB. It has not increased overnight

      Deals that are still valid are often relisted so they aren't buried too deep from the homepage. You can click on the price history link to see past listings and comments.

      More food for thought, some fine print from the FreedomPop RMA:

      "All devices are subject to return processing fees, including connectivity testing to ensure the device is returned operational."
      So if they send you a lemon you'll be out $10 to $15 for shipping it back + whatever they decide to charge you to process your return.

      ^ AFAIK they are contractually obligated to deliver a working product, thus return fees would not apply if you receive a defective product and return it at that point, unless it is specifically stated to be "as is" or other than a working product.

      If on the other hand you just decide to cancel your service or drop it causing damage, yeah it's reasonable for them not to have to eat that expense. Otherwise they'd be charging more for the purchase or service to make up the difference.

      It seems that most of the negative comments are by people who either participated before they changed some terms in their service, or didn't read the fine print they were agreeing to. Either way, it only costs about $6 to ship a phone so overall that is a very low total cost for otherwise free phone service.

      Once you get past the fact that there might be a fee or two, it is still one of the cheapest ways to get service, so arguing to avoid it is arguing for even more fees and bills going with some other carrier which seems contrary to the supposed argument.
