I would disagree. For the casual user, tablets are mostly fine, especially when you consider bang-for-the-buck (when these things are on sale). For the not-so-casual user, rooting an fire still makes for a good budget tablet for casual purposes (obviously you shouldn't expect to get $300 tablet performance from a $30 tablet).
That said however, this is a considerably older model and the newer ones go on sale at from time to time, you just need to be patient.
I bought the latest version recently for $50, and it's going back. You couldn't pay me to keep it. It might be okay for reading books on the kindle app and watching videos on video, but as far as I'm concerned it is way underpowered for pretty much any purpose. Trying to do pretty much anything on it is just an exercise in frustration. You've been warned...
