^ Tomatoes are very tolerant of poor soil, a raised bed isn't needed. Just throw down some fertilizer and a source of calcium though turning the soil in the fall to mix in lawn debris like grass and leaves helps too.
However, you could raise 4 descent sized plants in this and over a fair season, cost per tomato would be around $1 +/- $0.50 depending on the size of the tomatoes.
^ I used to have critters nibbling away at veggies I grew but having them closer to the house, putting fragrant herbs among them, and the neighbors' cats have deterred most raiders.
