the router i currently use is the e3000 and purchased from newegg refurbished. the air vents are on the bottom and back of the router and the e3000 gets really really warm. right now i have to restart the router every few days because computers can't connect or lose internet, etc... and this is with tomato firmware on the router (one of the last routers that tomato supported before they stopped work on the project.)
i have also read reviews where people have added a cooling fan to the router. i just sit mine upside down so that the hot air can escape from the air vents.

these may be fine and you may have no problems. just throwing this out there.

#1, the tomato firmware project is still active and this e2500 unit is supported. I use tomato releases compiled by shibby and found here (under the "Download > Tomato Firmware" link):

Anyways, this Hot Deal isn't terrible, but isn't super stellar either. The e2500 has simultaneous dual-band 2.4GHz/5GHz wireless (a positive), but the Ethernet ports are only 10/100Mbps and not Gigabit (a negative). This will limit communication between wired and wireless clients (or between wired clients) to 100Mbps max. Maybe not a big deal to some, but I wouldn't use this as my primary home router if I did a lot of data transfer between wire and wireless.

Another BIG POSITIVE is compatibility with Tomato firmware (also compatible with dd-wrt firmware, but the 5GHz wireless may not work). This adds a lot of advanced functionality like secure VPN, VLANs, static DNS entries, etc. Having VPN access to your home network is nice.
