Hows the quality of these things lately? I have had one for 6+ years. I had to replace the bloated capacitors after a year and the power supply shortly after that. The warranty fee would have cost me as much as a new item so i just fixed it myself. It is still going strong, in continuous use for these 6+ years.
Have these issues been fixed? I could sure use another one.
I think the issue with the knock-off Chinese caps has been resolved. I've had a refurb Netgear 24-port gigabit switch in continuous service at my house for about 4 years without issues.
^ The quality is above average, but like any consumer grade < $100 switch there are two primary faults.
1) They use electrolytic capacitors so in roughly 5 years (avg) those will fail, and either need replaced or you can take advantage of the lifetime warranty.
2) Power surges can damage the wall wart PSU.
You won't find any 8 port switch near this price point (triple it) that doesn't have these issues.
had my gs108v2 running for about 5+ years before it died about a few months ago. finally got around to calling netgear to check on the lifetime warranty a few weeks ago. went through the warranty process and got my free replacement gs108v3 a couple of weeks later. they will pretty much run fine until the power goes out. just had to pay the shipping to get it to netgear.
