I've never been disappointed in a factory refurbished item...they're gone over in detail by the manufacturer to ensure everything is working okay, so in some respects they're better than new. Every refurbished item I've bought, and I've bought many, have looked like new when they arrived, albeit usually not in their original box.

I bought this lens (new) from Bestbuy a couple of months ago and was disappointed. Returned it and got the 35mm and have been thrilled with it. Use it 90% of the time on my D5100.

Buy D lens instead of G and save money. Same quality with half of the cost.

D lenses will not auto focus on anything with out a focus motor (d5100/5000/5200, D3000/d3100,d3200, d40, d60..). Also D lenses will not perform as good as the new line of 1.8g due to newer optical design.

Every G lenses cost twice as much as D lenses and that was why Nikon make most of the newer low end SLRs can be used with G lenses only. I have both D and G lenses and couldn't really tell the difference in picture clarity. Get a used Nikon D90 and put the D lens on you will not be disappointed.

The D lenses are also really loud autofocusing and lack the build quality of the G lenses. Noise may be an issue for video. Optically they are close but G is superior, but not 2x superior
