We normally stay away from current events, but this one caught our attention quite literally since we're in SF. During lunch I tried to catch a glimpse of the torch along its planned route starting at AT&T Park, however much to my dismay the authorities whisked it away from the protesting throngs to a backup route. Some pics: 1 2 3 4 5 6.

#58 I know lots about current events, names, etc, but I suck at geography. Just because I can't find it on a globe doesn't mean I can't form an educated opinion about it.

#39, WAKE UP AND SMELL THE TRUTH!

Of course this is a political event, there are athletes who can not attend the event coz some big buys say no.

Olympics = platform to show off political muscle

For those naive Americans, go Tibet and see for yourself that how grateful the 99.999% of people are there to the current Chinese government.

I say burp the world. If pot smoking Chinese generals want to drive tanks over sunbathers, I say go for it.

We should just sit back, let France with it's euro cash save everyone.

To summarize, no need to protest in the US anymore because we don't care.

I work in NY near the UN and in a recent Tibetan protest outside (like last month) some Tibetans tried to barge the officer and break in to the UN. Are they just fu--ing stupid and don't care. That officer, who did a great job of stopping them before help could arrive got injured along with some innocent people. That was just so wrong of them and I lost all my respect. Comes to think who is really at fault...

#71 They may be stupid but they have no weapons, and their land was occupied by communists who overran the land with their own people, making Tibetan minority.

The real fault is in China, not the Tibetan people.

Tibet is part of China just like Hawaii is part of the S
    Free Tibet = Free Hawaii.
Americans always accuses China and other countries' human rights while they are killing people in Iraq. Their excuse to invade Irap was chemical weapons? did they find anything? No. But they still claim that they have done nothing wrong. I am going to give Fox five a call and ask them to put you on the Shame On You program in their news.

Hey guys, you are talking about human right just like a politics topic after your BBQ and Beer. This topic can let you guys high and let you feel yourself are good people. But take a second think, the human right is whose right? Is it Chinese people' right? So I would thank you for your care our right. So have you talked with Chinese people about their human right? How many people have you talked with? If you have not, then maybe you should before you talked about the China human right.
Let's talk about Tibet. I saw couple of people even don't know where is Tibet and any history and say "free Tibet". Maybe you would say it doesn't matter like a guy on TV, but how can you get right opinion about one thing you even don't know anything. Just like couple years ago, you might also cheered about your army going to free Iraq.

I prefer to see this glass as being half-full. It is a win-win situation. The Chinese gov't wanted a high-profile international event and they're getting it. The Tibetans get to have a higher profile too. If anyone thought the Chinese gov't was going to avoid the human rights issues, they were naive. That's the price of it. There's nothing to cry about here.

And you Chinamen criticizing what you think is "America" here are confused because the people protesting are not the same people that voted for the current administration and not the same ones building more prisons. It's hard to see the real dynamics when you look at the world through a nationalist mindset. None of you have mentioned the violent rioting that has been taking place on a regular basis in the poor rural parts of China. It's not the Tibetans rioting there, it's Chinese people that are getting the shitty end of the government's stick. If you have an unresponsive government that's how you get attention. You can look to Mao as an example of this, but he took it eau de bacon.

The Olympics is just another chance to sell more crap. If I'm going to buy a crappy overpriced olympic t-shirt, I'll buy the one with the handcuff logo rather than the rings, if for no other reason than that I can. Ben, please post a deal on those.

Lady Hillary protested Iraq war after she supported couple years ago. I don't believe the people who protested Iraq ware right now did the same thing while the war starting.
