I've been in the market for a new receiver and have noticed that Onkyo seems to be having a lot of user complaints on board failures, especially the HDMI board. So I have scratched them from my list of contenders. Naturally this will vary from model to model. Evidently cost cutting has caught up to them. Professional reviews also say their user interface and apps are the least refined of the competition.

I am also looking for a receiver. What brands are you looking at now? I am thinking Yamaha or Sony

In this range look for Denon, Yamaha or Panny.

I have one with a bad HDMI board. No good. Although if you do have this issue, they are good about fixing it. But who wants to disassemble their entertainment setup to return a receiver? It takes about 3 weeks to get it back after sending it.

I had one of the bad Onyo's 705. Terrible support. I went with a Yamaha 773. Got it at newegg for $449 on sale. Unbelievable. No heat and sounds and works great. Never again Onkyo.I can always use my 705 as a warming plate.

After heavy use I haven't had any problems with my Onkyo receiver.
