"No Monthly Fee" - that's not quite right. You'll have to pay taxes, probably around $5 a month
If you make a lot of international calls - nothing beats/comes close to Vonage
If all you need is a second line then you might want to consider an Obihai device. $50 onetime cost for device and REALLY ZERO monthly cost with Goog voice. Only issue is Goog voice does not do 911 and Goog may start charging for voice service in the future.
BTW, the monthly cost for taxes, etc. depends on where you live. I paid around $3.50.
I've been using Obihai device for 2 years and pay absolutely $0 monthly fee or tax, it's very stable and works very well. save me money !! OOMA is too expensive and have to pay monthly fee...
I have one and have had two power supplies go out in 3 months.
I was fortunate enough to get Ooma before they started passing the taxes along, but I'd still be willing to pay the few bucks. I had Vonage and it sucked...Caller ID rarely worked, call quality wasn't as good, had less features, and it was expensive in comparison to anything but a POTS line.
