Last month Paypal wanted my SS number for "Identification" purposes. I kindly reminded them that I've been using them since 2002 and they had already confirmed my identity when I linked a checking account years ago. They still insisted even though they admitted they are not a bank so I told them to bugger off and I removed my accounts linked to them.
Absolutely no reason for them to have my SS number. I might sell something on once every couple of months so no big loss.
They can do that without a SS number. A linked bank account and/or credit card is enough information/trail to do that, at least for an individual account.

Thank you!
