Unsurprisingly, the cheap price is a result of using the cheaper and low quality 18/0 steel.
^ It may not be as big a deal as people make it out to be. Yeah if you leave a piece sitting in tomato sauce it might etch it some, or it may rust a little, but I've somehow picked up miscellaneous odd pieces of 18/0 silverware over the years that hasn't rusted at all when put to the same uses as my 18/10 set.
All those years in school eating at the cafeteria, 18/0 is what they used too, as do many restaurants.
