I have a PNY card. Model P-SDUX128U1-GE UPC 751492578422. Lasted for about a year. I kept it in my PC, never removed. All of the sudden it's read-only. No obvious reason; although, I did a quick Google search and apparently this is a common issue. Don't know if it's just the quality of the card or that SDXC cards are prone to this issue.
    Just thought I'd share...

Just send it back for a replacement. It does have a lifetime warranty. Anything can break.

^^ Have you tried another card since then?, or a different reader, or just pulling it out and reinserting it into the reader a few times? SD card readers are supposed to have a small switch that disables writing to them when that senses the write protect nub on the card is engaged. Sometimes that switch fails, or just gets some oxidation or pocket lint, whatever jamming it up, and engaging it a few times will get it working again.

Thanks Dave C., I did try all those things. Micro SDXC cards do not have the write protection. Only the SD adapter that often comes with it has the manual lock switch. I also tried the card on my Android tablet. No luck. Tried reformatting too.

I also contacted PNY about this and I'll see how that goes. Looks like PNY has an RMA process...

^ True the card itself doesn't have a write protect tab, but a reader using it with an adapter should, and if the reader has parallel connected card sockets where the switch is wired to do more than one (never assume Chinese made junk is built the way it should be if a few pennies can be saved in cost), it could be on a different socket and still cause a problem. Regardless you tried it on another device which rules that out.

Thanks for the intel, Dave C!

Don't listen to Dave's, next thing he'll tell you to get those volts meter and solder gun out. The main problem is when performance get too high and lockup, all you need is to inject naloxone to unlock it. Trust me!!!

^ heh, WELL ACTUALLY, if you had a flaky write protect switch, you could just desolder and remove it, or short it closed with a jumper wire depending on whether it's a NO (normally open) or NC switch circuit, but on the other hand you can also get a new card reader for ~$1 delivered on
    eBay.
