Being a broke college student, I have used one of these before. My main problem with it was getting the time right for my amount of done-ness on the noodles (I like to eat them right when the brick starts to break apart in boiling water). If you play around with the time and flip the noodle brick once, you can get somewhat close to that texture. Personally, I'd say if you're really strapped for cash, just get a cheap electric coil cooking range and a pot. It's going to be cheaper than a microwave and this dish assuming there is not a microwave handy.
Buy a case of ramen for $3 and cook it right inside the ramen bag. Just open one end and poor in hot water. If you are eating ramen, you can't afford to waste $3 on this BS.
Excellent! The perfect solution to a nonexistent problem! the only good thing about this is that it absorbs all of the fat and sodium found in the Ramen and the flavor pack.... and replaces it with lead and cadmium. this is from china, right??
Or use any microwave safe bowl. I like mine tender and not soupy. I don't mind pouring off extra water after it has done its thing before adding seasoning packet if I misjudge. Might lose a little of the starch but won't miss it with all the sodium.

Is it really that much better than a pot of water? Or is it just useful when you can't boil water eg. dorm room, crappy office kitchenette?
I think Best Buy has a free in store pickup, am I remembering correctly? If not, then you made a good point.
Thank you!
