These should come built in when you purchase a new dog.
I personally don't trust the the non-flexi models. All the cheapos I have seen use a thin string where as the flexi uses a braided line for extra strength. My puppy destroyed one from all the pulling, but that was the teeth inside the retracting mechanism, not the line. The flexi is only $10 more, so what's your dog's life worth?
I second the Flexi recommendation.
I even went through 2 "tape" style from local purchases before I decided it was time to buy the real thing.
The Flexi cord looks so thin and flimsy, but it holds up.
I have an "exuberant" 75 pound young lab that breaks cords and strips gears of lesser retractable leashes. Flexi holds up.
