The Clip Zip 4Gb is selling for $20 from the same eBay seller. http://www.ebay.com/itm/SanDisk-Sansa-Clip-Zip-Black-SDMX22-4GB-Digital-Media-Player-/271210308882?pt=Other_MP3_Players&hash=item3f2564e512

Internal memory size is not such a big difference in practice since you can buy a cheap microSD and add an additional 32Gb easily.

    Differences (all while using Rockbox):
    Clip / ClipZip
    Great monochrome display/poor color display
Great battery life/not as good battery life
    miniUSB connector/microUSB connector
    great size/just a touch bigger

Included headphones suck in either case.

If you have an auxiliary input for your car stereo, this is a great way to keep your MP3 collection available in the vehicle, without having to worry about it getting stolen, and costing you a couple hundred bucks (like pretty much any iPod would run you). Just set it up to shuffle the music, and turn on repeat play, then hit "play all", and you're set for an extended road trip!

Another different between clip zip and clip+.

    Clip/ClipZip
Almost unusable FM (SF bay area) / great FM reception.

This is Clip +. I think it uses a micro USB verses the Clip which I have been using for years and has a miniUSB. My FM works fine.

Yeah, Apple can't touch how awesome this thing is with rockbox. Plays everything, decent battery, supports drag and drop on any computer. The only thing it could have that'd be nice is bluetooth.

It's even better with the Rockbox fimrware for this use case. Rockbox has an auto suspend/resume feature for car use. When the car port stops giving power, the player will shut down after a timeout, to preserve battery. Once you put the key in the ignition and power comes back, it resumes playing where you left off. When I used one in my car, it was literally a "set it and forget" operation. if my car was on, it was playing my music. All I did was select the AUX input on my radio and music was already playing. I left the MP3 player hidden away at all times because I never needed to touch it.

BTW, I used the past tense because I now use my aux port for a Belkin blue tooth HiFi audio/speakerphone device. I wish I had a second aux port for my Sansa Clip+.

I'm glad I posted this. it got me thinking about a 3.5mm Stereo A/B switch. Looks to me like they're readily available on Ebay. I might have to get me one so's I can haz some Rockbox goodness again.

These are fine, but they should be seen as "disposable"--mine lasted *just* past the warrantee and then the display crapped out entirely, and then it was useless. I contacted Sansa about it and they told me too bad. They also know that the firmware is incorrect and plays things slightly at a higher pitch/rate than is correct, but they know that most people don't care and they don't bother to fix it. Rockbox may be able to play the stuff right, though. All in all, I've decided to pass on them until a better competitor comes along...maybe for $20, but if I missed the little window of opportunity and it's already up to 25, forget 'em.

One area they really fumbled on is not making them waterproof. I've already lost one to sweat and almost another except I managed to notice and rinse then dry it out before using it again, before dropping it and breaking it anyway. Their tiny size is really nice except when it comes to durability.
