That's a lie, I bought couple of these (ST3000DM001) for $90 about 2.5 years ago without rebates. Price fixing is what people should think when they see any HDD "sale price".

^ Blame all the new cloud computing services that are buying up HDDs like there's no tomorrow. That artificial demand is keeping HDD prices high.

andy, is that right? http://www.extremetech.com/computing/153879-storage-pricewatch-hdds-back-to-pre-flood-prices-ssds-grow-as-gb-holds-steady shows pre-flood not quite that low, although the site may be using averages and not spot sales. Either way, you caught a good deal back then, and it's possible Ben didn't see that. "lowest price we've seen" doesn't mean he swears no lower price could have existed.

I was wrong about the date (time flies:), I have bought them in November 2012 which makes only 1.5 years ago. I bought them from newegg for $89.99, no rebates. That was a very good deal back then, no doubt.

If you check Ben's deal history you can still see that deal on 11/21/2012.

Andy - I appreciate the update. And our grandkids will wonder why we paid more than $20/petabyte, no doubt.
