Can anyone tell me if they've used these hybrid drives? Thoughts versus the now dropping price of a straight SSD for a laptop use?

For laptop i'd just go straight SSD. These hybrid drives are still slower and the mechanical drive components are going to use more power, generate heat and make noise. For a desktop I personally don't trust Seagate drives anymore after I had a few of their drives fail all within 3 months of each other. RMA process was easy enough though.

This is a 3.5 inch drive so its not going to to fit a laptop anyway Razz

^ This is a 3.5"desktop drive, not laptop.

The performance is higher than a regular mechanical HDD, lower than a SSD, but more capacity than a SSD... sort of what you'd expect.

Code give me $20 off. Newegg must not like the guys that only get $15 off..

Newegg collects $9 sale tax on behalf of the People's Democratic Republic of Kalifornia. Someone has to pay for the residents on the dole...

    2TB+8GB (8GB of cache)...

Oh yeah, I'd bet. More like 10% to 20%

You'd probably be better off using an SDD boot drive and a standard hard drive for data...

Don't go hybrid. Go 100% solid state....you'll thank me later.

It would make a good game drive if you have a lot of game installs. Depends on your application. I have ~800 GB of game installs so I don't want to spend $500 on a 1 TB SSD.

Or use both an SSD and a hybrid for bulk storage instead of an SSD and a HDD for bulk storage.
