Indeed. With true streaming becoming a norm, DVR seems like technology of yesteryear.

Tivo has always been overpriced but now it wont even work on the good satellite systems, you have to have a cablecard or some sort of cable company that allows them.

benben - true streaming - really? I can watch programs at 720p or 1080p through sat service and have such crappy internet there is no way I could do it online. I keep saying, until TRUE broadband penetration has the US covered 100%, streaming is a joke with low quality for most people. Of course we could pay tens of thousands of dollars to have poles put it for cable service but Verizon is WAY too cheap to replace our phone lines to get dsl or fios. Heck we lose phone service whenever it rains LOL gotta love cheap big companies.

Actually, Verizon has literally spent billions on the FIOS rollout. It requires a lot of manual union labor, materials, permits, and all sorts of other overhead to build that kind of infrastructure. They had to slow the deployment because it was costing so much, and new subscriptions were not rolling in at the anticipated rate.

Why subscribe? I have eleven "drops" around the house. I would need a "box" for each or drag a box around. Time Warner lets me watch news and Jeopardy anywhere. What else is there?
