If you got an old verizon phone, check out pageplus. They use VZW networks and have plans as low as $12/month that can't gov over. They just stop working when limits are reached. Good for kid's phones.

Oops, looks like it's gone. $75 is a bargain - that's only $6.25/month. I've been a TracFone customer for years and have nothing but praise for the company. Service is excellent in North Jersey, and even almost as good as Verizon while traveling around the country. It's not for chatters or surfing the web, but you can't beat it as an emergency phone. I've even manged to accumulate over 3,500 minutes.

Yeah gone. Tracphone's really the best out there if you really need a cheap phone only service and use less than an hour a month on average. I gave it to my parents because they never use it but I wanted an emergency phone for when they needed it. Even at "normal" pricing you can get it down to $10 a month for 60 minutes each month. All pre-paid with taxes included. Can't beat that.

Deal is over but remember they often bundle phones with minutes on Amazon for a good deal, for example an LG 800G with 400 minutes at triple minutes for life = 1200 minutes, is only $15 more than this deal was,

    http://www.amazon.com/Tracfone-LG-LG800G-Minutes-Triple/dp/B0057GUFEI

BUT, if you really only want a phone for emergency calls, it gets cheaper... Their phones out of the box have 2 months activation and 20 minutes if activated online... That works out to $4 to $5 a month if you get one of these every two months:

    http://www.amazon.com/LG-500G-Prepaid-Phone-Tracfone/dp/B004ZL9IZI

It's sort of crazy, the last one is even a (low feature) smartphone that costs 1/3rd of the price of an MP player with an equivalent screen, though of course you'll have to put down 4 bucks more to add a mSDHC card to use it as an MP3 player. No wifi though, but it wouldn't be practical to surf the web on a phone with such a small low-res. screen.

dave_c, interesting idea buying a new phone every 2 months. I never use mine but like having one just incase. The only thing preventing me from using your technique is the fact that one needs to sign upon delivery in order to receive the phone. I'm always at work when the UPS man drops off and they won't leave the package at my door even if I sign a waiver. So I end up having to drive to the nearest UPS hub, which isn't that near, to pickup my package.

I did not have to sign on delivery for the last Tracfone I bought on edit:amazon from shopcelldeals (fulfilled by Amazon, free shipping on $25 order...) , UPS just set it on the porch and ran back to the truck, but at the time it was a low value phone.

If you buy something worth close to $100 with minutes added, or from a different seller, they might be more likely to require signature on the package. I've no idea if buying direct from Tracfone would require a signature but they require $19.99 order for free shipping.

Or, have it shipped to work? You aren't saving that much though to keep getting a new phone, keep having to use a new phone number or transfer an old one, and activate it online every two months, BUT you get a backup phone(s) in case one breaks if you order the spare ahead of time, and spare battery, charger so it seems to make sense to at least buy one extra phone at such low prices and then you can just give it away for someone else to use if they don't have a phone but you need to be in contact with them, or just use the extra as an MP3 player to save the battery on the phone you use to make calls.

When my minutes run out I'll try buying my next Tracfone from Ebay. Bought several directly from Tracfone, April most recent, all had to be signed for.

lol, I meant that I bought on Amazon, I don't ever do ebay for cell phones because I am weary of what I'd get...
