Exciting news today: we're rolling out an updated site design for Ben's Bargains! It'll be the first major site update in nearly two years, and we've incorporated some of the feedback we received on previous releases.

Some of the new or updated features include:
You can see a "before and after" image by clicking on the thumbnail below.

We've also made some "behind-the-scenes" fixes to make the site perform more smoothly and improve the overall bargain hunting experience.

Please let us know what you think in the comments below and thanks for making Ben's Bargains one of the premier deal site destinations on the web!

I agree with what #17 mentioned in regards to the "hotness" thing. Is there a way we can permanently set it to default to "newest first"? The whole "hotness" or "trending" only works on social media sites like Facebook, not for a deals website.

Yes, select Newest First in the Sort By filter just above the first deal on the homepage. The Newest First setting will be remembered unless you clear your cookies. You'll be able to switch between those options more easily soon.

Thanks for your efforts with the redesign. That's never easy, and it must be frustrating to get complaints after working hard to make the site better.

How about the choice to get rid of the tool bar? While I'm sure that someone is incredibly proud of it, I just find it annoying, ugly and inaccurate (I'm STILL not located within 2 hours of Ft Worth, people!).

The last part, especially, reminds me of Woot's "local" deals. Yeah, if you live in a select few cities! Rolling Eyes

Agree, Agree, Agree with other comments. Can only see one deal at a time on tablet, and two or three at a time on large screen without playing with browser settings.

However when viewing on HDTV from across the room, the deals can actually now be read without zooming.

Maybe make this the "HDTV from across the room" version?

If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
    Now it is broke.
Font size difference from this window (too small to see) to when the comment is posted is .

[EDIT] Scroll is slow and jumps (firefox 20)
[EDIT again] Come to think of it, I haven't bought anything off here in months. Why do I check it everyday? Is it time to break the habit?

Got to say it's not good at all! Feels like a mobil app and yes there's way to much scrolling. It was bad before really sluggish/jerky scrolling for me here. I don't see it at home, but here it's bad. I thought it was our IT having us on IE8, but I don't know if that's the cause either as no-other site reacts like that. Like so many other sites that have moved this way (like TPU) it appears to be to increase advertising space, but advertisers care more about traffic than buying billboard size!

I think the text isn't as bold or dark.

The new top black bar(s) make it feel bulky and weighted down... and where is the Forums button, if Ben’s doesn’t make the forums a draw… turn out the lights!

Stop converting us into some new modern Deal site... with tons of clothing, murals, Red Solo Cup Koozies, and why all of a sudden all those Groupons? I see Ben’s looking to appeal to something more to the Starbuck crowd... that’s not me. We chiefly originated as a hangout for... yes "ghetto dogs". Keep shunning that to the supposed need to be more "inclusive" to a multitude other demographics... At some point you're so watered-down you're not enticing any particular social statistical group and ho-hum isn’t cool to anyone!

Way too much white space. If you could maybe expand it or maybe allow the comments to scroll through to the sides that might be nice so we don't have to click through just to post a comment. I might have to head back to bacon or fatbacon or baconeals if this site keeps going this way. It was slow before on my tablet and phone now it's just horribly slow. I don't think I will want to come back if it gets any slower. I will have to upgrade to a faster tablet/phone just to view the deals. Not today at least.

Maybe put the Retail price and Amazon price on the same line. Otherwise the retail price is pretty useless just as Dave mentioned.

Hi Casecutter. IE8 does have a problem that among other things, bogs it down so scrolling is jerky. If they won't allow installing a modern browser you might see if Firefox Portable will work.

I usually scan a couple of other sites for deals on offer besides Ben's, and Ben's has always been the slowest to load. When you page down, the image of the next item, and the information as well, has a brief pause before it comes up on the screen.

This is even more of a pain when scrolling on a tablet (any tablet). I don't experience this lag on any of the other sites.

I was hoping this might be fixed with this "new and improved" version, but alas, it's just as bad as it was before. I wish you guys would improve the page load speed before you put in any other enhancements. Now, not only does it still take too long for a page to load, but I have to scroll more than I did before.

I like to visit Ben's Bargains, but it is definitely more of a pain to access than the other sites out there.

I like the new design but can you please fill in the white space with pictures of hot chicks? Maybe let a users to able to toggle the picture preference theme since you have a lot of retrozexuals that hang around here...

Hey guys, thanks for the feedback. We're studying each of the comments closely. I'd like to say we can change things instantly but we're working on making the fixes as quickly as possible, particularly the white space / vertical height issue, the price change number, and scrolling problem.

Appreciate you all taking the time to leave comments and suggestions.

Less crowded but a little strange look. I think we will get used to it, as usual.

I think part of what caused the herky-jerky loading, before now, was that the site waited until you scrolled down, before it would load the thumbnail photos for the deals. Even on 20MBps cable, it tended to make the scrolling jerk around a little bit.
I actually don't notice that problem now.

Jumped the shark. Sorry I don't see this as an improvement, but congrats on the effort. Switching to bacon for now, I will check back occasionally for improvements. Too bad I've been here awhile.

The search seems pretty broken. Searched for 'Outside Magazine' today - got many things that didn't relate to neither Outside nor Magazine, and the 'Sort By Newest First' produced results in this order:2 days ago, 3 days ago, 1 hour 21 minutes ago, 10 days ago, 9 days ago.....

And +1 on all the comments about the space usage.
