Exciting news today: we're rolling out an updated site design for Ben's Bargains! It'll be the first major site update in nearly two years, and we've incorporated some of the feedback we received on previous releases.

Some of the new or updated features include:
You can see a "before and after" image by clicking on the thumbnail below.

We've also made some "behind-the-scenes" fixes to make the site perform more smoothly and improve the overall bargain hunting experience.

Please let us know what you think in the comments below and thanks for making Ben's Bargains one of the premier deal site destinations on the web!

Yeah, I'll have to agree on the search. I don't know if the redesign dealt with it, but when using it previously, I often got strange results. I've learned not to rely on it and to open a deal in a separate window and save that, if I thought I might want to refer back to some info there.

In general I like the new look but preferred the post time of each deal rather than "how many minutes ago".

I prefer how many minutes ago because the time is PDT, which not everyone is on.

Ah, no more history... So no more knowing if the price is up, down or indifferent? I noticed last Friday the whole scrolling thing seemed better, but not super smooth if you want to scroll through half a page.

Have to say, I showed here this morning... and found "Ben's Boring"! Perhaps time to look for a new haunt, it was a good run had some good times! Crying or Very sad

Bacon D*ave, just set all your clocks back three hours and you'll be in sync with the Internet Brands/Ben's Bargain located in the People's Republic of Kalifornia...

Wait Casecutter, don't quit like that sissy Casper Improved did. They're tweaking the site. I don't think they realize everything they broke or is now missing was useful. They aren't done quite yet. (If you do split, let me know where you or Bacon D*ave go)

BTW Ben, what's up with killing off the hot deals forum? Will you please put it back?

I hope you really aren’t trying to p*ussify this web site...

New price history chart accessible from the home page

Click on "Price Change" on any listing and you should see a nifty popup panel, and then in that panel a "See All History" link to the history page we already had. Of course this only applies to products we have a history for.

I get the feeling that IE8 will always be a worse browsing experience, it was just designed before today's more complex page layouts and MS has no interest in fixing it beyond a few security holes now that IE9 and 10 are released.

All the Hot Deals forum was, was a second listing of the deals on the homepage, plus user submitted deals. We now have a User Submissions forum for the latter so I'm not clear on what site functionality has been removed by doing away with Hot Deals since you can still search for member posts and your own, but the link goes to the homepage deal thread which was one issue you brought up in the past, to have a way to get back from the forum topics to the associated homepage listing.

Also, having the User Submissions forum instead seems to make it more clear that people can post deals there. It has a higher deal post rate than members were posting deals in the Hot Deals forum.

I'd swear that wasn't there this morning? I mean I realize not all deals have that if it the first listing, but I looked at a bunch of what I thought where reoccurrences; like those Red Solo Cup Koozies and since they haven't changed price there's no way to see history! That's not a perfect example as no one has ever left a comment, and as they've held at $10 there's no price change list. However, if Ben re-lists an item and it's the same price, we can't quickly check any back history... Price change is a good thing to note, but not having a way to see history/comments is making the site less friendly. Perhaps have a blue = sign to show a stable price, while still proving a way to get to historical comments about the item.

Here's an example for that latest listing on the Cooler Master Elite 460 PSU it been $20 for "581 days" now and tons of comments but now all that is MIA?

"All the Hot Deals forum was, was a second listing of the deals on the homepage, plus user submitted deals."

Well then, can you add in a filter to sort deals by latest comment too?

Also, how about placing the Ghetto Dog statement on the web page: Where Ghetto Dogs come for Low Down of Deals, or something like that. That's all we have left of the original Ken C*hu , I mean, Ben...

Yes it does seem like it would be useful to have the link to the price history and past listings /comments even if the price hasn't changed.

That's something to consider, but it would likely fall to a low placement in the redesign queue.

OK, well then, what the heck, this worked for Casecutter. I'll really have to put the screws on you: Have to say, I showed here this morning... and found "Ben's Boring"! Perhaps time to look for a new haunt, it was a good run had some good times! Crying or Very sad

zzyzx, we're getting some good feedback but every item has to be weighed and fixed in order of importance. Right now it seems like the most important thing is reducing the vertical footprint for each deal.

PS. I'm telling you, fill in the white space with hot chick images and the Ghetto Dogs will stop their complining...

Hi guys, you should be seeing some of the changes in response to your feedback as early as tomorrow. We've already made a few small tweaks here and there since last Thursday.

Also, for all you IE8 users out there, let us know how it is now. We made some changes to IE to improve that experience.

Thanks for all the great feedback and patience. It just takes time to prioritize and then follow through.

I stayed away for about a week because of the frustration with scrolling. I had some spare time so I thought I would check in again. Still a delay when using the scroll wheel, Like 2 seconds from bumping the scroll wheel until the screen stabilizes. FireFox 20 At first it wasn't doing it but by the time I got half way down the page the delay started again.

As for the time the deal was posted, that I what I prefer. For years I have subtracted the three hour time zone stuff. Even I can manage that. But I used to check once day so and I could tell when I was into deals I had seen already. Now, when the time exceeds 24 hours all I get is "1 day ago". But no idea when during that day.

One thing, I have proven that life without ben is possible. See you next week . maybe.

I guess I'm the only dinasour left but after a week or more of using other sites I thought I would try bens again. I still experience the scroll delay but not as bad as before. Maybe just an inertial delay of 500ms. But I wish the posting time was displayed rather than "1 day ago". I learned how to subtract "3" over 60 years ago.

Thanks for trying us out again, Pete. I hear you on the time stamp. We'll revisit that, plus we're still tweaking the scroll issue.

Hey, where are all the comments?
One reason I liked Ben's is to learn what the collective thought about the deals and products. It seems that comments have dried up almost completely.

    Scroll delay was back today.
