In for 2. I'd been waiting for a deal on black or red 2TB-3TB disks. Need to add another RAID1 set to the storage server here.
About 6 months ago, I was snookered into buying some Seagates that were reported to have issues as NAS drives. Thankfully, I've experienced no such issues, not even the clicking noise, after tuning them using hdparm under Linux. Crossing my fingers those HDDs continue to last.
The WD-Red drives are supposed to be designed for use in arrays. I'm in the process of replacing 4x320G 6 yr old Seagate HDDs. No issues with them, except the size limitation.
Interesting that these Red drives are out and says they are for NAS devices.
I wonder why then when took apart my 4TB Western Digital Sharespace NAS there were 4 1tb green drives in it.
I upgraded last fall and bought 4 x 2tb western digital green drives as thats what they had in the original NAS so I stuck with the same drives that came stock with it.
So far all the Green drives are working great in RAID 5 and are much cheaper than the RED drives.
