Be nice, even if they say it's a no-no, to make the very top strong enough to stand on. It's gonna happen anyway, and when I use it because I don't wanna buy the right ladder for climbing into the attic, I'd rather it not be a piece of cheap plastic cracking beneath my feet.
The most handy Werner ladder I've found is the 4-footer. It's all the height you need to reach things on the ceiling, above cabinets, tops of walls, and it's light and compact. I've had both 6-foot and 4-foot Werner ladders, and use the 4-foot ladder almost exclusively.

A 6' is easier to use to paint ceilings, the perimeter and areas you can't get well with a roller on a long pole.
