Anybody know if this particular model (which isn't the newest one) plays Hulu Plus? I keep finding conflicting reviews; some say yes (e through firmware updates) while others say no (other than using PlayOn or some other method of jerry-rigging).

Great player for a great price. I have 3. Sorry, I don't use Hulu with it, so I can't help you #1.

Ooops...I should have dug a bit more before posting. Per this update page (http://www.wdc.com/wdproducts/updates/?family=wdfwdtv_liveplus), an update in 8/2011 added support for Hulu Plus.

#2: You're happy with all 3? Do you stream over wireless N? I may jump on board for a second one if you're able to stream decently over wireless (with MKVs). I can just use a media server with this, though, couldn't I (PS3 Media Server, Tversity, etc.)?

I have this one and the newest one. I like the newest one better because the UI is better and the remote is larger. However, both do what I want them to... stream movies from a NAS on my network.

#3, I only stream Xvids over hardwire (old) and WiFi (new) and they play great. I haven't tried HD movies though.

I have one of these, and also the model before this one. I have a lot of trouble streaming over wifi which was what I got them for in the first place. However, I ended up moving one downstairs and hooking it to an HD projector and am very pleased with its performance in that role. I'm considering hard-wiring my network all over the house so that I can stream to these devices this summer.

If anyone has problems with WDTV players google "brad firmware wdtv" and install the brad firmware.
He has hacked the thing so it plays movies better and is much much better then the WD official firmware.
Especially if you are streaming over a network the brad is a must.
