Looks like $9.95 is their regular price per year.

Go with the free Microsoft domain. That is better.

I did one of these awhile ago. Then I realized that there wasn't any privacy so my home address was listed in the whois. It was then about $7 to enable the privacy. Quite a rip-off in my opinion.

Yeah, but I heard there are a lot of stipulations and things....someone said it costs you a lot more money than you plan on spending.

The thing about these registration deals is that it's really hard to dig up how much renewals will cost. That's what's eating away at my wallet. So what if they give away a domain name, if they're going to charge $16/year to renew it's a bad deal. Sure, you could transfer your domain around each year to a new bargain site, but what a hassle!

I just wanted to add another post so that I can qualify Bens holiday gift certificate! BTW, don't go with the free MS domain registrar, the layout alone is worth it to use yahoo.

I don't understand how those companies charge different amount for different domain names.

$2 for a domain is a GREAT price. Most people here probably haven't read the fine print in the Microsoft deal. Even though it says it's free, there's still a small loophole where they could snag the unsuspecting registrant with renewal fees in a year. If you have bad luck with missed car payments or overdue library books, the Microsoft deal is not for you. Pick Yahoo.

Has anyone here actually used Yahoo to register a domain? Any problems?

$2 for a domain is good, especially if you have your own host. face it, for $2 you're getting a shitty hosting plan for a year no matter where you go. The micrsoft hosting plan is even worse imo, but it is free so you get what you don't pay for.

I've read almost universally not to use Yahoo or Globat for a host. Can anyone suggest a good one?

If your focus is on cheap, I can say that internetforall.com has worked well for me to host the web sites and email for my domains. If you sign up for their unlimited domains package, they put you on a nice speedy server. ($36/yr) Been using them for just over a year now. This Yahoo deal is a score if you also purchase web hosting from someone else, or just want to use Yahoo email.
