Anyone use this host before? I googled some bad reviews about their customer service, undependable uptime, and slow speeds...
One time there were around 40 responses on Ben's.....everyone was negative on this provider....and everyone agreed...a first on this site. The provider must really suck the big dog!!
Stay away from Globat.com!
Their service is completely unreliable (lots of down time), inefficient (lack of useful tools and capabilities), and much more expensive once the 1 free year is over.
Also a few months ago they upgraded everybody's plan and assessed a fee automatically; they emailed me the warning to an email I never read and was totally unaware of the charge. Very shady individuals running that company.
Good looking out... I nearly fell into the trap!
beware of auto renew at high rates - scam artists
There are lots of reasons to stay away from services, but if you get hit with an auto-renew that is IN THE FREAKIN' CONTRACT that you signed, then you're just stupid.
Sorry, there's no other word for it.
You sign up for free stuff, 9 times out of 10, there is an automatic renewal listed right in the agreement. That's how they make their money. If you fall for it, that's your fault, not theirs.
There are sure a lot of legitimate complaints about their service on here, though.
I signed up for a domain going on a year now, but never did anything with it because of how shady Globat seems to be. That and I got really lazy. I remember about 3 months ago I noticed a charge on my credit card from Globat and had no idea why. There was email explanation or anything. I emailed customer service and they said it was because they upgraded all thew packages to some platinum package or BS like that. They initially refused to credit back the charge until I threatened to report them to my credit card company for making unauthorized charges... And i still gotta figure out how to cancel my account without getting charged for another 8 years or something...
I suggest Stay Away
I also signed up for the domain hosting 8 months ago. I didnt need web hosting because I had my own apache server for that. Out of the blue I got a charge for $39.95 on my credit card for upgrading to the "Platinum service". I told them they better refund the money and just to be sure I submitted a dispute with my credit card. I am thinking about cancelling that credit card so no more unauthorized charges can happen.
If they dont give me my money back I am submitting a complaint to the Cailf Attorney General's office www.ag.ca.gov
Maybe that will do something.
