Taiyo Yuden media is bad. Their business is not even focused on media. They have very inconsistent quality. I wasted many disc on various burners and they do not compare to other brands. Stay away.

Speaking of inconsistencies, the Description says Shop4Tech.com, but the title says Newegg. I wonder where the link will take us.

TY is known for being of very good quality since the cd-r days, because their media was the standard that burner manufacturers centered on. This is not to say that #1 is wrong though, because anything could have happened throughout the years. Last DVD I burned was more than 2 years ago.

Interesting note: the cost per gig for a hard drive nowadays is less than the cost per gig for a stack of DVDs. For me, that eliminated DVDs as an option for backing up data.

By my calculation, DVDs are still cheaper than hard drives:
    Using typical bargain prices:
A 1TB hard drive costs about $75 which means 4.7GB costs 35 cents.
A 100 DVD spindle costs about $20 which means 4.7GB costs 20 cents.

However, if you use RAID to get similar reliability as DVDs, the costs will be closer.

Of course, there are other considerations besides cost: Hard drives are more convenient - no changing disks and are reusable.

Premium TYs are good media. The Valueline discs are a craps shoot, sometimes they are good and sometimes they aren't. Better off with Verbatims that are always good.

Taiyo used to be one of the best. Now they are crap. I have this spindle sitting next to me collecting dust. Verbatim beats the hell out of it.
