The newer TDK DVD-R media is not as good as the it use to be. I got 500 pack last time and for some reason it only works on my newer NEC burner not the older one (on same PC). Other Verbatim and TY DVD-r and DVD+R still works on the older NEC burner so it's not the drive (could require new firmware but don't understand why it just started happening with the latest batch of TDKs... will have to investigate farther).

TDK is a decent brand for dvdr. It's not the best, but not bad. This is a pretty decent price too. I don't recommend recording in 6-hour mode though.

I've had very good results with this media and hardly any coasters (that weren't user error). Compressed movies on this media play fine on most newer players.
