Once you install the drives, it has to reformat the drives for it to recognize them. Most common complaints on this unit is that it is very slow.

Aside from the fact that it is only 100Mb not Gig, it's slow even for 100Mb. Yes I owned one.. After a poweroutage it would take forever to reboot, and was downright slow all the time.

#3 is heading in the right direction.

DLink DNS-323 is the way to go.
I've had one for 9 months now.
It's great.

Don't even try to stream video from this unit, it's so slow it just stutters and is unusable.

I recently got a D-Link DNS-321, the 323's little brother. I'm also happy with it: boots pretty quickly, reasonable speed (not blazing, but it does have gigabit Ethernet), FTP server (but no BT), and is just as easily hackable as the 323. I'm running Firefly to serve up my music collection and it's working pretty well. It was under $100 AR and I already had a dedicated print server so I didn't need the 323 for that anyway.

I hear you can run BT on the '321 with fun_plug. The newest beta firmware also has a BT client built in
