The stand propably doesn't pivot.
My first HDTV was a 26" Toshiba 720p for the bedroom and I always felt the SD didn't look that great, in the end I replaced it with a 32" Sharp who's SD was better. But I have it in a spare room now and I just hooked it up to a Samsung BD player I got cheap and frankly it looks really good.
In the reviews of Toshiba you hear quite a few complaints on the SD side, but you don't buy 40" and above for SD.

This tv has fair reviews, but I would pay $75-100 more for a samsung
