pretty steep price cut for an apple refurb. i recall their refurbs being priced 15-30% less, not 55% less...

This is first gen, not the current model. That's why it's a "savings of $800."

Not bad if you don't care about cost, have simple needs but want something more than a netbook. The thing I don't like is the lack of ports and user-replaceable battery.

I would trust apple refurbs more than anyone else's. from my own experience and what I have heard from everyone that bought one apples refurbs are truly "good as new"

The price is also "good as new," if it were year 2003.

#4: If you knew what you were talking about, you'd be dangerous.

Apple (Factory) refurbished products come (1) out of the box looking indistinguishable from new and (2) have the exact same warranty as new Apple Macs.

That said, I had the first-gen MacBook Air, and I don't recommend it. It ran way too hot, and suffered from a poor video card (streaming movies sucked, for example.

If you really want one of these, I suggest trying out all the things you plan to do on the 'Air prior to ordering one.

In 2005 I designed the thermal controls for the PowerMACS (remember the "noisy fan" and overheating problems - that is what I consulted with them to fix), and all the engineers (in the thermal group) I worked with at Apple used PC's. I couldn't help but note the irony when I was working there.

Lame reason given=> "The Engineering software does not exist for the Apple machines" - that was pre-intel and it was true at the time. But come on ... I just did a redesign of the controls in the latest release for the liquid cooled quad core system, and they were still using PC's. I had to chuckle ...

#12) I was on the original Apollo mission to the moon. The aliens from Jupiter we encountered did not use Macs either, in fact they let use their PC's to fake the whole moon landing. Kinda the same thing, don't you think.?!

#12.. did you see me when you went to the moon? I was the guy taking a shi in a crater

you have to be an asshole to buy it at that price, especially its a refurb
    #16   lethalfang - Posted 7:59 pm PDT 04/29/09 (47 Posts)
Oh yeah, the hardware specs totally suck and the price is totally premium, but you get the illuminated keyboard and the coveted Apple Logo!

Get the 1.8 and SSD version for $200 more , way better deal.

Not a deal - refurb price has been this for at least 6 months. There's usually a reason they never run out of these refurbs - and I'd heard the same things as #11 with the heat problems. That and you have no DVD drive breaks it for me - I wanna watch movies...
