Out of these five? The Metro or Corsa. Both have similar components, so it's all frame and styling. If you have beefy legs go for the corsa, it has larger front chainrings. RST Forks are garbage, but may do well for city riding. At least these two are styled for both genders. The main reason for women's bikes to have that swooping frame was for girls to get on the bicycles easier while wearing skirts or dresses from the 1900

I think most of the REI bikes should be good. Plus if you have a membership you should be able to return if you find the bike doesn't work out the way you hoped!

My wife has been really happy with her Novara Carema Pro. I do the maintenance on it and it seems to be made pretty well. When these bikes are on sale, it's hard to find a better deal anywhere else. And, the return policy at REI is awesome. A local bike shop usually doesn't let you return a several month bike if you don't like it.

Does anyone know how these compare to the lower end offerings from bikesdirect.com? I'd heard at some point that the Fantom Cross CX was a good deal for the bike you get. I'm not close enough to a REI location for free shipping, so I'm not sure this is a great deal.

Then select "items for sale".
I just bought the $388 road bike and am very satisfied.

I believe that chicabike is a bikesdirect seller, same bike is available from their site at the same price: http://www.bikesdirect.com/products/dawes/lt1000.htm

If you're gonna commute on one of these then fenders are a requirement.
Also, #2, "step-thru" bikes for the ladies are making a huge comeback now as there are plenty of girls now commuting and getting around town while wearing skirts. One great thing to be thankful for on this rainy Tuesday morning.

#6 bikesdirect bikes are way better in spec compared to these bikes. For 399 i'd go for the Motobecane 500HT in Deore.
#9 Sweet! Theres not many step throughs over here in the sf bay area, where are you at?
